Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is Pilates, and how does it benefit me?
Pilates is a low-impact exercise system focusing on core strength, flexibility, and overall body conditioning. It helps improve posture, balance, and muscle tone while reducing stress and enhancing mental clarity. It's suitable for all fitness levels and can be adapted to meet individual needs.
2. What's the difference between Pilates classes and private sessions?
Pilates classes involve group instruction on the mat, where you follow a set routine with others. Private sessions are one-on-one with an instructor, allowing for personalized exercises tailored to your specific goals and needs. Private sessions offer more individualized attention and adjustments.
3. Do I need any prior Pilates experience to join a class or book a private session?
No prior experience is necessary. We offer classes and private sessions for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Our instructors will guide you through the basics and ensure you're comfortable with the exercises.
4. What should I wear to a Pilates class or private session?
Wear comfortable, fitted clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Pilates is typically done with non-slip socks, which are required in our studio. Avoid loose clothing that might get in the way or distract from your movements. If you do not have a pair of non-slip socks, we have new socks available for $5. It is always a good idea to bring an extra bottle of water.
5. What equipment is used in Pilates?
Our classes are mat Pilates. Some classes or private sessions may incorporate props such as resistance bands, small balls, bosu, weights, or foam rollers to enhance your workout and target different muscle groups.
6. Do I need to bring my own mat?
No, just bring yourself and water! We provide the mats for all of our students. The mats are cleaned and disinfected after every use. We always have water, in case you forget.
7. How often should I do Pilates to see results?
For optimal results, aim to practice Pilates 2-3 times per week. Consistency is key to building strength, improving flexibility, and achieving your fitness goals. Your instructor can help you develop a routine that fits your schedule and needs.
8. Can Pilates help with injury recovery or rehabilitation?
Yes, Pilates is often used for injury recovery and rehabilitation due to its focus on controlled, precise movements and core strengthening. Private sessions are particularly beneficial as they allow for modifications and specific exercises tailored to your recovery process. Of course, you need to get your doctor's approval for exercise after any surgical procedures. I am always happy to consult with and incorporate suggestions from your physiotherapist or chiropractor.
9. How do I book a class or private session?
You can book classes or private sessions through our website, by phone, text message, or email. Check our class schedule online or contact us directly to find a time that works best for you.
10. What is the cost of your classes or private sessions?
Classes are $20 per class, purchased individually or $15 per class if purchased in 10 class packages. Seniors and students are $15 per class, purchased individually. Private sessions are $80 per session or $70 for seniors or students.
11. What is your cancellation policy?
